How to Open Ports

When trying to use some P2P software or Online Video Games most of the time you will encounter with a connection issue. You will get a message saying that it cannot communicate to the ports.

The problem here is that by default our routers block all ports, just leaving open the main ones. To solve this problem you have to open the ports you need.
To do this the first thing you need to do is know which are the ports you need to open, usually the software you use will tell you the ports it uses.
If you can't find them here is a link to a website that gives the list of the most common programs and the ports they use.

- When you know this the next step is to access the router configuration page.
- Go to the NAT section on the main menu bar. In there you will find a table that ask you to input some values.
- In here you have to first of all enable the NAT table.
- It will ask you for an IP address. You need to put the IP address of the computer that is using that game or program.
- Then it will ask you fo the Port, you have to input the port or ports you want to be open.
- Next you will have to choose if the port uses TCP or UDP, if you dont know just select Both. - Then just click enable.

By doing this you will open those ports and you will be able to use the video game or program.
